About Us
This platform for crowd sourcing data on environmental compliance has been set up by the Centre for Policy Research (CPR)- Namati Environmental Justice Program with technical support from OneWorld Foundation India. The platform will enable the creation of publically accessible data on compliance and allow the much needed research on the performance of environmental regulations in India. Data on compliance is very hard to get from official sources and is not systematically organised. It is therefore not used in government decisions regarding project operations and permissions for expansions. Closing the compliance gap and bringing it to bear on decisions regarding industrial expansion is a necessary condition for sustainable development.
The CPR-Namati Environmental Justice Program trains paralegals to act as a bridge between environment regulatory institutions and affected communities. Their aim is to close the compliance gap, build robust institutions for enforcement, enhance participation of affected communities in them and realise the benefits of environmental laws. This work is being carried out in partnership with Snehakunja Trust (Uttara Kannada, Karnataka), Mundra Hit Rakshak Manch and Ujjas Mahila Sangathan (Kutch, Gujarat), Keonjhar Integrated Rural Development and Training Institute (Keonjhar, Odisha) and Janabhivyakti Samajik Vikas Sanstha (Raipur, Chhatisgarh).
The portal is running on a platform designed and created by the Ushahidi community. The conceptualisation and design is by Anirban Dasgupta, with inputs and help from Kuntesh Jani, Utkarsh Dwivedi and Anush Shetty.
